[영어 에세이] Short Thoughts on Carrots (당근에 대한 짧은 생각들)

오늘은 [영어 에세이] 두번째 시간입니다. 

잘 지내셨어요?^^ 

저 쑥쓰한 Jessica는 영어공부를 아~~~~~~주 열씸히 하고 있거든요. 

 

뭐 그래서 ... 이렇게 [영어 에세이]로 우리 님님님들과 만날 수 있기도 하고요 말입니다.^^ 

 

오늘의 주제는요 ~ 바로 "Carrot(당근)" 입니다. 

 

먹음직하다고요????? 

아! 그럼 우리 님님님은 분명 성숙한 생각을 갖고 계시는 어른이시거나 건강에 탁월한 관심을 갖고 계신 분일거란 확신!!!!!! 

 

너무 잡담이 길죠!^^ 

그래서 오늘의 [영어 에세이]는 다음과 같습니다. 

<Shourt Thougts on Carrots> “당근에 대한 짧은 생각”   Recently, one of the recipes to trend to many people is carrot rappe. 최근, 많은 사람들에게 유행이 되고 있는 레시피 중 하나가 당근라페입니다.   The principle of the carrot rappe is to slice something. 당근 라페의 원리는 어떤 것을 잘게 채 써는 것입니다.   I don’t know why carrot rappe became a trend. 나는 왜 당근 라페가 유행이 되었는지는 모릅니다.   But, because of the trend for the carrot rappe, I concerned again something for the meanings of carrot in this society. 하지만, 당근 라페의 유행 때문에 나는 이 사회에서 당근이 가지는 의미에 대한 몇 가지를 다시 한 번 관심을 갖게 되었습니다.   First, a carrot is good for health. Specially, I know that it is good for the eyes. 첫째, 당근은 건강에 좋습니다. 특히 나는 당근이 눈에 좋다고 알고 있습니다.   Second, in the communication, if I try to agree someone else I shout “Carrot!” In this, the meaning for the carrot is “of course!” 둘째, 의사소통에 있어서, 내가 만약 어떤 사람에게 동의를 하려고 한다면 “당근!”이라고 외칩니다. 여기서, 당근의 의미는 “물론입니다!”입니다.   Third, in relationship, we know the famous words, “Carrot and Stick”. 셋째, 관계에 있어서, 우리는 유명한 말인 “당근과 채찍”을 알고 있습니다.   When I went to make a demand with any particular expectation from someone, I have to decide whether to give him carrots or sticks, 내가 어떤 사람에 대한 어떤 특별한 기대를 갖고 요구를 하려고 할 때, 나는 그에게 당근이든지 채찍을 주기를 결정해야 합니다.   And so I decided that I will give a cup of carrot juice to me. 그래서 나는 나에게 당근주스 한 잔을 주기를 결정했습니다.   Because I want to make good relationship with myself through satisfaction with my health. 왜냐하면 나는 내 건강에 대한 만족감을 통하여 나 자신과 좋은 관계를 만들고 싶기 때문입니다.

And so, I decided that I will give myself a cup of carrot juice, because I want to make good relationships with myself, through satisfaction of my health.

But because of this trend, I got concerned about the meaning of carrot in this society. First, carrots are good for your health, especially that they are good for the eyes. Second, in communicating, if I try to agree with someone else, I just shout “Carrot!” Here, the meaning of carrot is “Of course!” Third, in relationships, we know the famous words, “Carrot and Stick”. When I want to make a demand with any particular expectation from someone, I have to decide whether to fivehim carrots or sticks. And so, I decided that I will give myself a cup of carrot juice. Because I want to make a good relationshipwith myself, through satisfying my health.

 

 

역시! 

배움에는 끝이 없습니다!!!! 

다시 교정으로 잘 다듬어진 [영어 에세이]가 멋진 음악과 같지 않나요?

그럼, 이번에는 <Carrot>에 관한 Dialogue를 한 번 살펴볼까요? 

A : I don't want to eat carrots! (저 당근 먹고 싶지 않아요!) B : You can't picky about food! (음식 가리면 안돼!)  A : They taste weird, Mom. (맛이 이상해요, 엄마)  B : It's good for your health. Start eating. (건강에 좋단다. 먹기 시작하렴.)

 

위에서요~ 

picky about + (명사) 는요 ...... '(명사)를 가리다' 혹은 '(명사)에 대해 까다롭다' 의미로 해석할 수 있답니다. 

예문을 들어본다면, 

 

She is picky about men. (그녀는 남자들에 있어서 까다로워.) 

Don't be picky about food. (음식을 가려먹지 말아라.) 

 

예문을 보니까 .... 좀 더 의미가 "당근!" 이죠^^    

 

저 역시도 많이 자란 후에 "당근"을 좋아하게 되기도 했지만, 

당근에 대한 여러 가지 생각들을 알고 난 후에.... 

당근이 더 친밀하게 느껴진 거 아시나요!^^ 

 

좀 더 가까와지고 싶은 무언가가 있다면 .... 우리 좀 더 알아볼까요?^^
